Visit desert-like sand dunes, crystal clear water lagoons and pampas (plains) with diverse flora and fauna.
Very close to the city, at about 16 Km (10 mi) west, you can find the Lomas de Arena (sand dunes), a natural area that is easily confused with an African oasis because of its attractiveness of enchanting and inviting landscapes of white quartz sands, endless savannas and enigmatic woods that border the northern Bosques Chaqueños and most oriental Cerrado Brasileño. All these characteristics make the visitor think he/she were in the Sahara desert and African the surroundings.
In reference to the local fauna, we can mention the ostrich´s “cousin” called Ñandu (Rhea Americana) which is an enormous and fast land bird that has adapted very well to this kind of climate and soil. Despite the fact that the area is surrounded by diverse human activities such as agriculture, cattle raising & breeding and industry, this area is full of birds and small monkeys such as the Chichicos (Saimiri Sp) that wander in groups on the tree tops looking for food.
